The teletext service from Satellaview+
SatellaText is the official teletext service of Satellaview+, and completes the triangle
of the Satellaview+ family of services. SatellaText (or SatTXT, for short) features many
pages of information, including schedules, news, trivia, articles, and even games!
And SatTXT is open and free for anyone to check out - all you need is a way to view internet
teletext pages.
Satellaview+ is a closed-source, free-to-use download service, that aims to
revive the BS-X service for the Super Famicom's Satellaview device. The Satellaview
allowed owners of an SFC to access dedicated content broadcasts over BS
(broadcast satellite) systems.
The BS-X service was accessible out of the box, as the software came bundled with the
Satellaview modem. Using this cartridge, subscribers could download demos of games,
magazines, and more.
The BS-X service launched alongside Satellaview on 23rd April, 1995. It was
released in partnership with satellite radio broadcaster St.GIGA, and accumulated over
100 000 subscribers (as of March '97.) However, financial troubles on St.GIGA's side,
as well as their lack of a broadcasting licence, plus Nintendo's releasing the N64,
ultimately led to the final closedown of the service during the late hours of the 30th
June, 2000.
It's surprisingly simple. The instructions are available on this page.
